Habitat For Humanity

Mission:
Waco Habitat for Humanity is a non-denominational Christian housing ministry, which works in partnership with low-income families to eliminate substandard and poverty housing in Waco.
Volunteer Duties:
Give time in a variety of ways, including helping with construction of houses or wheelchair ramps, translating from English to Spanish at application meetings, providing lunch for 15-20 volunteers, or joining the Family Selection or Family Support committees. Volunteers can also help at the ReStore, a building materials recycling center, as sales assistants, cashiers, warehouse assistants, and more. Visit the Waco Habitat for Humanity volunteer website for details.
Volunteer Requirements:
Volunteers working on a building site must sign a waiver and be at least 18 years old (16- and 17-year-olds may work with an adult).
Training:
Volunteers will receive instruction on the day’s tasks and will not be expected to do anything they may be uncomfortable doing.
Time Commitment:
Volunteers may sign up for a morning (8:30 a.m. to noon) or afternoon (1-4:30 p.m.) construction shift. Volunteers may work as few as one shift, or as many as they like. Time commitment varies for ReStore, lunch provider, translator and committee volunteers.
Group Volunteering:
Volunteers may come as a group.
Recommended For:
Students in the fields of interpreter training and social work
Benefits:
Volunteers have fun doing community service, help to preserve the environment, learn or teach others about construction, meet new and interesting people, and make a difference.
